The purpose of the purchased State Trust Land is to protect in perpetuity Natural living desert and mountains to maintain scenic views, as a habitat for wildlife and desert plants; to protect archaeological and historical resources and sites, while providing appropriate public access for educational purposes; and to provide limited outdoor recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.
Proposition 440 calls for a 0.25% of one cent sales tax. For every $4 spent in Cave Creek, one cent is collected for the fund. Tourists, residents, guests and shoppers from neighboring communities are drawn here by the intrinsic beauty and nature in which we choose to live and in the way we love to share our authenticity with others. The small amount of extra cents spent by visitors and residents is a gift to the future of our community. This land acquisition enables the town to continue to grow the beautiful qualities that brought us to live here in the first place.
Open Space
Open Space is Cave Creek’s #1 Amenity: It’s what makes our town unique – we have the most Open Space per capita in our size town or greater, in the country.
Wildlife Habitats
The 4,005 acres acquisition guarantees the protection of wildlife habitat corridors and trails starting at Cave Creek Regional Park through Tonto National Forest and west to the White Tank Mountains. This is a legacy Cave Creek residents can pass on to future generations.
Dark Skies
The 4,005 acres addition is a major contributor to the preservation of dark skies in the future of Cave Creek. In addition, dark skies are crucial for wild animals that rely on natural darkness for hunting, mating, and migration.
Trail Riding
A significant number of properties in Cave Creek has horses. An aspiration has always been to saddle up horses on your property and use trails that connect to Open Space.
Trail Networks
The acquisition of the 4005 acres will enable Cave Creek to expand its trails network. This includes the 4,005 acres itself, 2,934 acres of Maricopa County Cave Creek Regional Park and 2,154 acres of Spur Cross. The total open space network of trails available to residents will be 9,093 acres.
